Diversity Programs
The UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute strives to involve all people—regardless of race, class and gender—in our genomics-related research and scholarship.
Our diversity programs are designed to encourage and assist underrepresented students in the science field with financial aid, support and resources:
- A dedicated, full-time Office of Diversity program director (Zia Isola, isola@soe.ucsc.edu, 831-459-1702)
- Funded undergraduate internships and a summer program for training in genomic science
- An atmosphere promoting discussion of the ethical, legal and social implications of genomics research
- Participation in diversity outreach programs and events such as those put on by Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), American Indian Resource Center, The California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education, and the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)
