The Biden Cancer Community Summit Friday 9/21/18 was an opportunity to help highlight leading-edge cancer research happening at UC Santa Cruz. At this free, open-to-the-public event hosted by UCSC’s Dr. Daniel Kim and sponsored by Startup Sandbox and Nexcelom, leading cancer researchers from UCSC including Professors Robert Coffman, Olena Morozova Vaske, David Haussler, Daniel Kim, Camilla Forsberg, Josh Stuart, and Jeremy Sanford made short presentations on their work to defeat cancer.

The Biden Cancer Initiative is dedicated to driving progress in cancer treatment and patient care. The goal of this meeting was to educate the public on innovative research at UCSC and discuss questions posed by the local community.  By bringing together researchers, doctors, and those struggling with cancer in the Santa Cruz area, UCSC researchers hoped to initiate important discussions and bring awareness to the current state of cancer research.

The Biden Cancer Initiative tweeted about this event and included Drs. Haussler and Forsberg in their montage of the National Summit in D.C. and all of the local community summits across the country.  More than 250,000 people were engaged with the summits on social media, and over 10,000 people were sent this Twitter “moment” (skip to the end to see the UCSC event highlighted) : https://twitter.com/i/moments/1043151570211360768
